The Project was intended to improve the overall water quality in many parts of Malta and improve operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The proposed underground tunnel now extends over a number of localities (Attard, Mosta, Naxxar, Iklin, San Gwann, Ibragg, Swieqi, Pembroke) and is operated by the Water Services Corporation (WSC).
The project included tunnel boring works which allowed for the link of the largest Reverse Osmosis plant in Pembroke to the Ta’ Qali Group of Reservoirs via large diameter 1.2m mains.
During these works, AIS Environment was needed to assess any impacts caused by the boring works.
AIS presented a detailed impact assessment on the existing land use, geology, hydrology, water bodies, architecture, archelogy, noise, and vibration at each locality.
The study also involved an assessment of the environmental risks associated with the tunnel.
